ABOUT OUR CRANIOSACRAL APPROACH
An Integrated Biodynamic Approach

Integrated Biodynamic Craniosacral Therapy (IBCST) is a holistic approach to healing that emphasizes the body’s innate ability to self-regulate and heal. This gentle, non-invasive therapy works with the body’s natural rhythms and subtle movements to support physical, emotional, and psychological well-being.
Incorporating the biomechanic approach pioneered by John Upledger, IBCST acknowledges the importance of understanding the physical structures and mechanics of the body as well the movement and function of tissues, addressing physical symptoms through structured techniques.
In contrast, the biodynamic approach, as developed by William Garner Sutherland, emphasizes a more subtle, energetic perspective. It recognizes the presence of Primary Respiration, a fundamental rhythmic motion within the body that reflects deeper, inherent health forces. Practitioners work with this rhythm using a gentle, non-invasive touch to facilitate natural healing processes and restore balance at a more profound level.

By integrating both approaches, IBCST provides a holistic method that respects the body’s physical mechanics while also honoring its deeper, energetic patterns. This integration allows for a comprehensive treatment that supports both structural and subtle aspects of healing.
Integration in Practice

In IBCST practitioners combine biodynamic principles with other therapeutic modalities to create a comprehensive and individualized approach to healing. This integration allows for a more holistic treatment, addressing not only the craniosacral system but also the interconnectedness of the body, mind, and spirit.
IBCST is particularly effective for those dealing with chronic pain, stress, trauma, and emotional imbalances. It is also beneficial for those of all ages, enhancing overall health, improving sleep, reducing anxiety, and promoting a deep sense of relaxation and well-being.

Trauma-Informed and Community-Focused

Trauma, whether physical or emotional, can deeply affect both the body and mind, often leading to a state of dysregulation and disconnection. IBCST allows the nervous system to recalibrate and return to a state of equilibrium. This therapeutic process helps clients reconnect with their body awareness and manage pain and anxiety more effectively.
Our approach at the CCA is not only biodynamic but also trauma-informed and community-focused. We train our practitioners to work with individuals who have experienced trauma, offering a safe and supportive environment for healing. By integrating these principles, our practitioners are equipped to serve diverse populations, particularly within community settings.
